Najib warmly received by shoppers and traders in his walkabout
KUALA LUMPUR: Many people spending their Sunday evening shopping in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman were pleasantly surprised to see the bespectacled man casually walking past and smiling at them was the Prime Minister himself.
They could not stop looking at Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as he made small talk with some folk in his walkabout to the area a day after the illegal rallies.
He spent an hour at the busy shopping district as hundreds of shoppers and traders took the opportunity to shake hands and have their pictures taken with him.
Najib, also Umno president, was accompanied by Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, Deputy Urban Development and Well-being Minister Datuk M. Saravanan and several community leaders.
First, the Prime Minister stopped by at the Sogo shopping complex, before making his way from Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman to Jalan Masjid India at 5pm yesterday.
Trader Fauziah Sulaiman, 24, said she was surprised and happy to see Najib.
“I did not expect the leader of this country to visit my shop today. I am also glad that business is back to normal,” she said.
A textile wholesaler, Mohd Elah, 45, said she was very excited that Najib had come by.
“I will enlarge the photograph I took with him and have it displayed in my shop,” she said while showing reporters the picture she took with Najib on her handphone.
The manager of Madras Jeweller Sdn Bhd, M. Vasudevan, 34, said his outlet suffered losses amounting to almost RM100,000 as a result of Saturday’s closure due to the illegal rallies.
Earlier, Najib held an explanation session with Umno grassroots leaders and supporters at Dewan Merdeka in the Putra World Trade Centre. (Sumber Thestar)
